Post-Game Interview
The question coming into tonight's WCAC conference game between two Top 10
teams , was how #2 Dematha would handle their first major local test of the
season? However a collective effort inspired by some underclassman would
later answer that question in convincing manner , as the Stags improve to
13-1 with a 68-54 win over McNamara (11-4) before a sold-out Hyattsvile ,
Md. crowd.
The supporting cast of freshman James Robinson , junior Chris Frank and
senior Marcus Rouse combined for 30 of Dematha's 68 points which proved
critical tonight.
The game was close in the first half as the two rivals kept each other at
striking distance , the Mustangs actually went into half-time down 30-28
when Rashad Whack scored on a tough floater over Mikael Hopkins who fouled
Whack on the play. Whack (George Mason) who has been ailed with an ankle
injury since Saturday's loss to Atlantic Shores H.S. left the game in the
3rd quarter and did not return.
After stealing an errand pass from McNamara's Talib Zanna , Victor Oladipo
did what he does best , slamming home a jam that sent the Dematha faithful
in a frenzy mid-way through the 3rd quarter. Jerian Grant later found a wide
open Quinn Cook who nailed a 3pt shot as Dematha outscored McNamra 20-10 in
the 3rd quarter giving the Stags a 12 point advantage.
Freshman James Robinson opened things up when he managed to score off an
isolation play , giving Dematha it's biggest lead of the night 59-40 , as
the Mustangs chances of an upset slipped away. "One of the things that
Coach Jones emphasized was to play unselfish , Dematha Basketball and that
what we did" added James Robinson who saw starting action tonight.
Robinson Interview
Senior Talib Zanna scored a game high 21 points in the loss for Bishop
McNamara who has now dropped it's third straight game , things dont get any
easier for the Mustangs who take on #8 O'Connell (14-3) Sunday night.
